Although Franconia is certainly one of the smaller European wine-producing areas, it is very familiar to connoisseurs, for good reasons. Sited on the banks of the river Main at the heart of this region, Sulzfeld has an interesting medieval city wall and historic centre. When it comes to ageing wine here, the maxim is “less is more”. Each hand-picked grape is carefully pressed and developed into wine. Ageing takes place in vaults built in 1558 for collection of tithes in traditional wooden barrels.
The Zehnthof’s 12 hectares are confined exclusively to the top-quality Franconian areas of Maustal and Cyriakusberg where Silvaner and Müller-Thurgau are the primary varietals. After careful hand-picking, gentle pressing takes place, after which the must is aged in the ancient vaults of the estate in double-size oval barrels. |
