Château de Terrefort-Quancard

The origins of Château de Terrefort-Quancardare way back in the mists of time. Part of the building dates from before the 16th century. It has been owned by the Quancard family since 1891.

Château de Terrefort-Quancard, situated on the highest point of the hillsides of the commune of Cubzac-les-Ponts, looks out over the Dordogne, between the Côtes de Bourg and the Côtes de Fronsac. The vines of the Château, straddling the famous “45th parallel”, benefit from a moderately warm, humid climate, with masses of sunshine and mild winters. The microclimate is ideally suited to wine growing.

 

 

The wine: Location: 61 hectares of hillside in Cubzac-les-Ponts, 20 km northeast of Bordeaux.
Terroir: Limestone enriched with ferrous alluvial deposits.
Grape varietals: Merlot 64%, Cabernet Sauvignon 36%
Ageing: In temperature-controlled cement vats and in oak barrels.
Laying-down: 3 to 10 years
       
Tasting: An appealing garnet red and ruby colour. A delicate bouquet with fragrance of bracken, candied fruit and spices. Full-bodied and ripe on the palate with mellowed tannins. A generous and delightfully fruity finish.  
   

 


 

CHÂTEAU COSSIEU-COUTELIN

Saint-Estèphe:   Aged in oak barrels The vines of Château Cossieu-Coutelin, in the prestigious Saint-Estèpheappellation of Haut-Médoc, grow in clay and limestone soil which contributes to its outstanding quality. The vineyard was bought in 1977 by Marcel and Christian Quancard. Traditional vinification techniques, painstaking care in the crafting of the wine,combined with ageing in oak barrels,ensure a magnificent, elegant and powerful wine.

 

The wine:   Location: Two hectares in the locality of Coutelin, 60 km north-west of Bordeaux.
Terroir: The Saint-Estèphe terroir, made up of relatively high, gravelly outcrops, benefits from a microclimate centred around the Gironde estuary.
Grape varietals: 52% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon
Ageing: In oak barrels
Laying-down potential: 10 to 12 years

 
Tasting:   A rich, intense wine. A superb, complex nose dominated by notes of toast, gingerbread and candied fruit. Generous and compact on the palate. An elegant woodiness with a full-bodied finish, typical of the terroir.

 
       

 


 

CHEVAL QUANCARD RÉSERVE - Blanc

Aged in oak barrels The Bordeaux White AOC is the second of a selection of flagship appellations of the Bordeaux region. It offers the full expression Cheval Quancard expertise in its packaging, targeting younger consumers who respond to the clean lines and design of the products. The Cheval Quancard logo on the label acts as an instantaneous visual landmark for consumers. With this new wine, the firm has invested all its integrity with respect to consumers, sending them an even stronger signal of commitment and quality.

Tasting:   The Bordeaux White Cheval Quancard Reserve is a delicate wine whose nose combines nuances of grapefruit, white peach, blackcurrant and toast. Full bodied and lively on the palate, with a pleasant background of woody and floral aromas.

A wine from the Sauvignon and Sémillon grape varieties  

The wine:         
  Location: In the commune of Saint Vincent de Paul, 17 km north of Bordeaux
Terroir: Clay and limestone, clay and flint
Grape varietals: 50% Sémillon, 50% Sauvignon
Ageing: At low temperature
Laying-down potential: To be enjoyed in the year following the harvest
 
Tasting :   The aromatic palate of this wine, which allies freshness and sharpness, reveals subtle notes of black currant and green apples. In the mouth, the aromas of this dry and edgy wine will delight your palate.  
       

 


 

FORTIN PLAISANCE - Saint Emilion

Aged in oak barrels According to legend, although its initial development took place in the 13th century, the vineyard really dates back to Roman times. With this prestigious appellation, ageing in oak barrels for eight to ten months brings a host of tannins. Fortin Plaisance is crafted from different, carefully selected estates.

 

The wine:             
  Location: Commune of Saint-Emilion, 50 km east of Bordeaux.
Terroir: Clay and limestone; gravel and sand
Grape varietals: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
Ageing: 8 to 10 months in oak barrels
Laying-down potential: Up to 5 years

 
Tasting:   Splendid, deep ruby red colour. The nose carries notes of old leather, quince, black cherry and toast. The silky initial taste blossoms on the palate into a medium to full body with a good balance between the fruit and the wood. A warm, aromatic finish leaves the palate with pleasant, toasted flavours.

 
       

 


 

XL' CHARDONNAY - Blanc

Cheval Quancard produced this Merlot varietal wine with great care, stringently selected from the finest grapes from the south of France.

Grape varietals: 100% Chardonnay
Ageing : Mechanical harvest, ageing in vats.
Laying-down potentia: 1 year
 
Tasting:   A lovely straw green colour with flashes of gold. A pleasing nose with aromas of grapefruit, lime and quince, backed by mineral touches. This Chardonnay is full-bodied and lively on the palate, with a pleasing finish recalling the range of aromas. An expressive, very palatable wine.  
       

 


 

XL' MERLOT - Vin de Pays d'Oc

Cheval Quancard produced this Merlot varietal wine with great care, stringently selected from the finest grapes from the south of France.

Grape varietals: 100% Merlot
Ageing: mechanical harvest, ageing in vats.
Laying-down potential: 2 years

 
Tasting:   A fine, garnet, ruby red colour. Powerful nose offering an interesting spectrum of fruity aromas (cherry, blackcurrant and prune) with a floral backing of violet and acacia.

A highly harmonious wine on the palate, with substance and roundness, lacking roughness. The finish is long and well-balanced, enhanced by pleasing touches of dark fruit. A full-bodied, well-balanced wine, dominated by its smoothness and fruitiness.

 
       

 


 

CHÂTEAU FRANC PIPEAU

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru:
  Aged in oak barrels The Bertrand family’s passion for vines and wine stretches back over five generations. Now Jacques Bertrand and his children are building on that know-how, blending modernity with observance of traditions. The estate, planted on the southern Saint-Emilion slopes at the foot of Tertre Daugay, covers a total of 16 hectares. Stringent selection plus crown suckering, thinning and leaf stripping provide a proper control of yields and optimise quality. The grapes are hand-picked before being selected on the sorting table.

 

The wine:
  Location: 16 hectares in the commune of Saint-Emilion, 50 km east of Bordeaux.
Terroir: Clay and limestone, and sand and gravel
Varietals: 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ageing: In temperature-controlled stainless steel vats followed by 15 months in oak barrels (half of which are renewed each year).
Laying-down potential: 3 to 8 years

 
Tasting:
  A pleasing, garnet red colour. A bouquet combining cooked fruit and the spicy, vanilla aromas of fine oak. Rich and generous, due to the ripeness of the tannins, elegantly enhanced by a touch of woodiness. A wine of distinct personality, typical of the appellation, home to the finest wines.

 
       

 


 

CHÂTEAU HAUT-LOGAT

Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois:
  Aged in oak barrels The vineyards of Château Haut-Logat, located at the highest point of the village of Cissac, between Saint-Estèphe to the north-east and Pauillac to the south-east, are planted in gravelly soils which contribute to the exceptional quality of the wine. As on all the estates of Vignobles M&C Quancard, the best techniques of traditional and modern vinification are combined with 15 months of barrel ageing to develop all the features of the traditional characteristics of a great Médoc wine.

 

The wine:   Location: 14 hectares in Cissac, 55 km north-west of Bordeaux.
Terroir: Gravel ; sand and gravel.
Varietals: 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc
Ageing: Maceration for three weeks, followed by 15 months in oak barrels.
Laying-down potential: 3 to 10 years.

 
Tasting:   A nose of dark berries and tobacco. On the palate the Cabernet Sauvignon melds with top quality tannins, enhanced by subtle notes of toast.

 
       

 


 

CHÂTEAU VIEUX CARDINAL LAFAURIE 

Lalande de Pomerol:
  Aged in oak barrels The origins of this estate date back to the 12th century, when the Order of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem set up a hospital to care for crusaders and pilgrims. Cabernet Franc vines were planted then to produce wine for mass. Château Vieux Cardinal Lafaurie was bought by Marcel Quancard in 1978.This remarkably fine wine has outstanding laying-down potential.

 

The wine:   Location: Five hectares in Néac, 12 km north of Saint-Emilion, and 38 km north-east of Bordeaux.
Terroir: Clay, limestone and gravel
Varietals: 65 Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
Ageing: In oak barrels.
Laying-down potential: 2 to 8 years

 
Tasting:   Superb, intense, ruby red colour. A rich and subtle nose where notes of soft fruit intermingle with aromas of toast and burnt wood. The initial supple and soft taste with full-bodied, fine tannins blossoms into maturity and harmony. A full-bodied finish, enhanced by the toasted flavour from the barrel.

 
       

 


 

MONFORT-BELLEVUE

Médoc:   Aged in oak barrels This appellation covers a total 5,000 hectares to the north-west of Bordeaux, between the Garonne estuary and the Atlantic coast. Monfort-Bellevue is a ‘grande cuvée’, a premium wine from Maison Cheval Quancard.

 

The wine:                  
  Location: Médoc
Terroir: Clay and gravel, and gravel
Varietals: 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc
Ageing: 10 months in oak barrels.
Laying-down potential: 2 to 10 years

 
Tasting:   An intense, purple colour. A smooth, complex nose with a fine range of aromas of whortleberry and blackberry, intermingled with the spicy notes of the Cabernet. A generous, assertive wine to which the very ripe Cabernet brings depth and body. A full-bodied finish elegantly enhanced by pleasant woody touches. An excellent, elegant and distinguished Médoc.

 
       

 


 

CUVÉE CLÉMENCE

Entre-Deux-Mers:
  Aged in oak barrels A superb premium wine from Cheval Quancard made from grapes selected from individual plots and kept for six months in oak barrels (two thirds of them are replaced each year). The first bottles come on the market in May, depending on the harvest.
 

The wine:   Location: Commune of Saint Vincent de Paul, 17 km north of Bordeaux
Varietals: 70% Sauvignon, 20% Sémillon, 10% Muscadelle
Ageing: 6 months in oak barrels
Laying-down potential: 3 years
 
Tasting:   A subtle, delicate Entre-Deux-Mers with a complex nose intermingling grapefruit, white peach, blackcurrant and toast. Full-bodied and lively on the palate with a background of pleasant woody and floral aromas.  
       

 


 

CHÂTEAU SAINT AMAND

Sauternes:
  Aged in oak barrels The vines of Château Saint-Amand are ideally positioned in the Sauternes appellation, at the junction of the Ciron and the Garonne rivers, where early morning mists form in September and October, essential for the development of the fabulous Botrytis cinerea fungus without which there would be no Sauternes. The estate covers 20 hectares in two plots of 10 hectares each on clay, limestone and gravelly soils.

 

The wine:   Location: 20 hectares in the commune of Preignac, 44 km south-east of Bordeaux.
Terroir: Clay, limestone and gravel.
Varietals: 85% Sémillon, 14% Sauvignon, 1% Muscadelle.
Ageing: The grapes are picked one by one and fermented at low temperature before ageing in vats and barrels.
Laying-down potential: 8 years.

 
Tasting:   A buttercup gold colour. A harmonious nose combining notes of honey and candied fruit. On the palate, the full-bodied smooth wine offers a concentration of fruit over-ripened by the sun and the botrytis. The distinguished finish combines a superb sweetness with the flavours of dried fruit and kirsch.
